International Conferences
International Conferences Organized by the Institute
Since its establishment in 1929, the Institute has initiated numerous national, scientific-technical, regional, and international conferences, congresses, and seminars. Under the auspices of the United Nations, the Institute has hosted three international symposiums:
- 1969 – “Measures Against Floods”
- 1995 – “Man and the Sea”
- 2009 – “Floods and Modern Methods of Combating Them”
Recognizing the Institute’s experience and international authority, on May 30, 2008, the United Nations Commission signed a contract between the Institute and UNESCO to host the international symposium “Floods and Modern Methods of Combating Them” (held in Tbilisi, September 23-28, 2009), which was dedicated to the Institute’s 80th anniversary. Scientists from over 22 countries, including the UK, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, USA, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Russia, Israel, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Belarus, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, China, Iran, and others, confirmed their participation. UNESCO highly praised the symposium’s scientific level, as confirmed by an official letter from Paris.
Since 2010, based on the Institute’s initiative, with the support of the Armenian University of Architecture and Construction and Baku State University of Azerbaijan, an annual international conference titled “Modern Challenges in Water Management, Environmental Protection, Architecture, and Construction” has been traditionally The international conference “Modern Challenges in Water Management, Environmental Protection, Architecture, and Construction” brings together not only scientists and specialists from Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan but also experts from various countries worldwide. Scientific proceedings from the conferences are published, and following the event, the Scientific Council develops recommendations regarding the challenges and solutions in these fields. These recommendations are then sent to governmental and non-governmental bodies of the participating countries for further action.
The organization of this international conference contributes to ensuring environmental protection and sustainability in Georgia, supporting the realization of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR – Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2015), and addressing modern issues and achievements in architecture and construction. It fosters close collaboration, information exchange, and the use of modern scientific achievements to tackle these pressing global issues.
